Tottenham & Ireland striker Robbie Keane has signed a new five-year contract with the club.

Keane, 26, has been at White Hart Lane since he arrived in a £7m move from Leeds in August 2002.

"I have felt really settled and happy at Spurs and that is probably one of the reasons I have played the best football of my career here," he said.

"It is an exciting time to be at the club and I am looking forward to even better seasons ahead."

The former Wolves, Coventry and Inter Milan forward has enjoyed the most prolific season of his career with 22 goals.

He scored 11 league goals to help fire Spurs to fifth in the Premiership and was also a key factor as they reached the semi-finals of the Carling Cup and the last eight of the FA Cup and Uefa Cup.

Chairman Daniel Levy said: "Robbie has been an influential part of our club for five years and this further commitment, on the part of both him and the club, is a recognition of that.

"He is an individual who is loyal and professional and we are delighted he will be with us long term.

"The key to retaining top players is to agree long-term contracts.
