The European Deaf Futsal Championship kicks-off next Monday, June 11th for two weeks in Portugal and Ireland have been grouped in Pool One alongside Ukraine, Russia and Belgium following the draw made last November in Moscow.
Ireland begin their campaign on Monday by facing Ukraine, before meeting Russia two days later. They wrap up their group on Friday, June 15th when Belgium provide the opposition.
The Irish, under the guidance of Cornelious Brosan (Acting Football Director) and Rino Gigilione (Manager), will be aiming to progress into the knock-out stages of the competition which are scheduled to commence on June 18th with the quarter-final ties.
The 22 man squad includes 26 year old Eoin Cluskey from Belfast. The Shaws Road man broke into the squad last month, impressing team bosses in a winning debut. The West Belfast man plays for Belfast Deaf United, an amateur league club run by deaf people and made up entirely of deaf players. Given his strong performance last month, Eoin is likely to feature in the crucial opener against Ukraine.
Best of luck to the lads next week - "Come on you boys in green"
