New Wolves loan signing Darron Gibson was delighted with the outcome of his first match in gold and black. The midfielder enjoyed a fine game against Charlton and he revealed afterwards that it was his first 90 minutes of the season.
"It was brilliant," he said. "It was great to win in my first game for the club and I'm delighted to have played for the 90 minutes for the first time this season.
"I think the standard of football was very high and that there are some very good players in the Wolves team.
"Certainly, if we play to our potential, then we stand a very good chance of being involved in the promotion shake up. "Charlton have a very good side and that is shown in their League position. But we didn't let them play and I felt we were the better team on the day and that we deserved the three points.
"Now it's Cardiff. I've never played there before and I can't wait for Wednesday to come along."
And the Derry born Ireland international is also aware that a fruitful loan spell at Molineux could be the stepping stone he needs to break into the first team at parent club Manchester United.
"There is no doubt in my mind that we could get promoted. Wolves are one of the better teams in the Championship and if they play to their potential they'll go up.
"The gaffer (Sir Alex Ferguson) obviously knows what he's doing and he knows where to send his players. The likes of David Beckham went to Preston, did well and got his place in the Manchester United team and that is what I'm aspiring to.
"If I do well here up to Christmas - and it could be all season - then I can go back and really challenge for a place.
"Originally the plans was that we'd (United's young professionals) play Carling Cup games but that's finished for us so there is no chance."With that being the case I'd much rather be here battling for a place week in, week out than playing reserve team football."
"My gaffer and Mick McCarthy agreed three months to start off with and if things are going well and both are agreed then it can be for the full season."
"I spoke to a few managers - Bryan Robson at Sheffield United and Steve Cotterill at Burnley - and I like what Mick had to offer. He seemed like a decent guy when I spoke to him on the phone and that helped.
"There are a lot of other Irish lads in the squad and as soon as I walked into the dressing room I got it both barrels. I've only been here five minutes and I'm already getting stick from my team-mates!
