He's brought Bournemouth the luck of the Irish - but Marc Wilson's not weaved the last of his magic yet.

Kevin Bond's strugglers looked doomed to relegation when the Pompey midfielder arrived on loan in January.

Yet the Ireland under-21 international's charmed presence has transformed their season.

With eight wins in their last 16 matches, the Cherries now find themselves in 18th spot. That's six points above the League One drop zone.

Wilson has started every single one of those matches. And the versatile 19-year-old Lurgan lad has no intention of easing up in the survival fight.

He said: "We I arrived we were in the relegation zone and things were not looking good. Since then we've managed to win a lot of games.

"That's not down to me, it's down to the team, who have responded really well. Now it's going great and we're eight points clear at the moment, which is some going.

"We're a young side but we've bonded, built up a lot of confidence and started to play well. These sort of things help you win games.

"Some of the results have been really good and I've ended up playing every game, scoring two goals as well, so for me it's great to be part of all this.

"There used to be a lack of confidence, now everyone is pulling together, training is good and Kevin Bond is doing a really good job.

"I definitely think the team will stay up now. There's a lot of confidence and people playing well - I don't think we'll have any problems.

"There's still a bit of way to go yet, we can't relax but at the moment it's looking good.

"This is a good football club, it's got a lot of potential. It's important we stay in this division and I'm really enjoying my football at the moment."

Bournemouth represents prized first-team games for the Irish midfielder, who has yet to feature for Pompey's first-team.

And Wilson's revelling being given a settled run in a team.

He added: It's been great, I've managed to get a lot of experience, which is just what I needed.

"At Portsmouth I was just in the reserves. Now I'm playing competitive league football, I've been at left-back, right-back, centre midfield, and even centre back against Rotherham for about 25 minutes.

I'm loving it.'
